Commercial Vacancies Persist in Chippenham Following Branch Closures

Two prominent commercial properties in Chippenham remain vacant after NatWest and Select Fashion closed their local branches due to shifting consumer habits and financial difficulties.

Two significant commercial vacancies persist in Chippenham, Wiltshire, as the town struggles with retail and banking shifts. A Grade II listed former branch of NatWest at 30 High Street remains on the market for £400,000. The bank closed the location on October 16, 2025, as part of a national reduction of over 50 branches, citing the rise of mobile and online services as the primary driver for fewer customers visiting in person.

Additionally, a Select Fashion store in the Emery Gate shopping centre has remained available for lease at £1,666 per month since its closure in January 2025. The clothing brand shuttered the unit due to financial difficulties.

Acorn Property Group, the owner of Emery Gate, is currently seeking new national or independent tenants to fill the vacant fashion unit. Caroline Wall, a project manager for the group, stated that the closure highlights the necessity of the proposed Chippenham Riverside rejuvenation project intended to improve the town centre's commercial and leisure offerings.
