Micron Stock Surges Amid AI Memory Demand
Micron Technology shares are rising rapidly due to AI infrastructure demand, though analysts warn of volatility and increasing competition from Chinese chipmakers.
Micron Technology is seeing a parabolic rise in its stock price, fueled by the expansion of AI infrastructure and high demand for high bandwidth memory. This growth has led to significant revenue increases and expanded gross margins for the semiconductor company.
Despite the current surge, analysts caution that the company remains heavily exposed to conventional DRAM and NAND prices, which still constitute the majority of its revenue. Cathie Wood of Ark Investment Management warned that memory cycles can be "viscous" and noted that increased competition from China could disrupt the market.
Specifically, the Chinese firm ChangXin Memory Technologies is expanding its DRAM capacity and improving chip designs. This increase in supply could trigger a price drop. Historical comparisons to the 2000 dot-com bubble suggest these boom-and-bust cycles can result in severe stock crashes with long recovery periods.
