Petrobras and Seatrium Discuss LNG Exports to Asia

Petroleo Brasileiro SA and Seatrium Ltd. are discussing a collaboration to liquefy and export natural gas from deepwater Atlantic basins in Brazil to the Asia-Pacific region. CEO Magda Chambriard stated that the company views the region as a potential primary destination for gas, mirroring its current crude oil export patterns. The initiative aims to provide Asian nations with liquefied natural gas sources outside of Qatar, which has experienced export disruptions caused by the Iran war.

While Petrobras has not yet disclosed a specific investment figure or timeline, the project would necessitate the construction of new liquefaction facilities. The discussions highlight a strategic shift toward diversifying energy exports to meet surging demand in Asian markets.

In a separate development, the two companies announced that two floating production storage and offloading vessels, Petrobras 80 and Petrobras 82, will depart for the Buzios oil field in September and October 2026. These vessels are scheduled to begin production in the first half of 2027, which will increase the field's capacity by 450,000 barrels of oil per day.
