Vietnam Sends Final Trade Deal Text to United States
Vietnam has submitted the final text of a reciprocal trade agreement to the United States amid U.S. calls for regulatory reforms and deficit reduction.
Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc announced on October 14 that Vietnam has sent the final text of a reciprocal trade agreement to the United States. While the Vietnamese government views the negotiations as nearly complete, United States officials maintain a more cautious stance on the deal's finalization.
U.S. Ambassador Jennifer Wicks urged Vietnam to establish stable pricing policies for its energy sector and reform its data protection regulatory framework to better attract foreign investment. These demands coincide with concerns over the trade imbalance between the two nations.
U.S. Assistant Secretary of Commerce David Fogel reported that the U.S. trade deficit with Vietnam reached 122.6 billion dollars in the first three quarters of 2026. Fogel encouraged Vietnamese businesses to increase their direct investment within the United States to help address this gap.
