Maple Leaf Foods Consolidates US Plant Protein Production in Indianapolis

Maple Leaf Foods Inc. is consolidating its United States plant-based protein production into a single facility in Indianapolis, Indiana. As part of its Fuel for Growth initiative, the company will wind down operations at two other production sites in Seattle, Washington, and Turners Falls, Massachusetts.

The transition will occur in phases over 12 to 18 months, with a target completion date in the fourth quarter of 2027. Production will continue at the Seattle and Turners Falls locations until the consolidation is finished. The company intends to establish a Plant Protein Centre of Excellence at the Indianapolis site, where it plans to invest and hire new team members.

CEO Curtis Frank stated the move follows a review of the manufacturing footprint and is driven by declining volumes in the plant-based category. He noted that maintaining three facilities at current utilization levels created structural costs that were not sustainable over the long term. The company's plant-based portfolio includes Lightlife, Field Roast, and Yves Veggie Cuisine, the latter of which was acquired from Hain Celestial in January 2026.
