Sesterce to Invest 10 Billion Euros in Finnish AI Hub
Sesterce plans to build a gigawatt-scale AI data center campus at a former paper mill in Jämsä, Finland, creating 2,300 total jobs.
French AI infrastructure firm Sesterce plans to invest over 10 billion euros to develop artificial intelligence data centers at the site of a former paper mill in Jämsä, Central Finland. CEO Youssef El Manssouri confirmed the investment decision and the signing of a contract with an undisclosed client, identified as one of two leading AI laboratories.
The project aims for a long-term capacity exceeding one gigawatt, beginning with a 200-megawatt liquid-cooled facility scheduled for completion by the end of 2026. Sesterce is currently negotiating the purchase of the site from real estate company Kaipola Green Port. Board chair Martti Inkovaara indicated that these negotiations are in an advanced stage.
The development is expected to generate 2,000 construction jobs and 300 permanent positions. To offset the environmental impact, Sesterce committed to adding renewable electricity to the Finnish grid equal to the campus's total usage and establishing a 10-million-euro local community fund. Jämsä town manager Jori Reijula expressed cautious optimism, noting that various permit processes must still be completed before the project is finalized.
