Bangladesh and Pakistan Sign 10-Year Security and Anti-Narcotics Pact

Bangladesh and Pakistan signed a 10-year agreement in Dhaka to combat drug trafficking, human trafficking, and cybercrime through intelligence sharing and joint operations.

On May 8, 2026, Bangladesh and Pakistan signed a 10-year Memorandum of Understanding at the Hotel InterContinental Dhaka to combat illicit drug trafficking, narcotics abuse, and money laundering. The agreement was signed by Salahuddin Ahmed, Home Minister of Bangladesh, and Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Interior Minister of Pakistan. This pact marks the first structured cooperation between the intelligence agencies of the two nations in 15 years and the first such agreement under the new Bangladesh Nationalist Party government following the February 2026 elections.

The framework establishes a secretary-level joint working group to share real-time intelligence on smuggling routes and trafficking organizations. Operational coordination will be led by the Department of Narcotics Control in Bangladesh and the Anti-Narcotics Force in Pakistan. The two countries will conduct joint intelligence-led "controlled delivery operations" and share technical assistance to dismantle international drug supply chains.

Between May 8 and May 11, the scope of the cooperation expanded beyond narcotics to include counter-terrorism, human trafficking, cybercrime, organized crime, and financial fraud. As part of this broader security partnership, Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi offered technical assistance and full cooperation for the Safe City project in Bangladesh. The agreement also commits both nations to coordinating training programs for police academies and civil armed forces while utilizing modern technology for law enforcement.
