Udhayanidhi Stalin Challenges Chief Minister Vijay Over Corruption Files
Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin demanded that Chief Minister Joseph Vijay release alleged corruption files involving the previous DMK government during a heated assembly debate.
Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin challenged Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay on August 21, 2026, to immediately release and act upon corruption files linked to the previous Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government. The confrontation followed a statement by Vijay on August 19 claiming he possessed incriminating evidence from three government departments, which he stated he would reveal at an appropriate time.
During the assembly debate, Stalin mocked the Chief Minister's hesitation, asking if he was "waiting for his astrologer to fix the date" and urging him to take legal action if solid evidence exists. Stalin argued that the assembly is not a place for "cinematic rhetoric" or "punch dialogues." In response, Minister Aadhav Arjuna stated that White Papers are being prepared and legal action will follow any found irregularities.
The session also included disputes over the live telecast of proceedings. Stalin claimed that edited reels of expunged remarks were being circulated on social media to undermine the Speaker's authority. Minister Arjuna defended the broadcasts as a transparency measure, contrasting it with the DMK's own unfulfilled 2021 poll promise. Additionally, Stalin rejected a government proposal to provide official vehicles to all MLAs, citing a state financial crisis.
