Texas Leads U.S. Early Voting With 4.1 Million Ballots
Texas leads the United States in early voting for the 2026 midterms, contributing to a national total of over 30 million ballots cast.
More than 30 million Americans cast early ballots as of October 26, 2026, ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. Data from the University of Florida Election Lab indicates significant participation in races that will determine control of Congress.
Texas leads the nation in early voting turnout with more than 4.1 million ballots cast, surpassing California's 3.1 million and Florida's 2.8 million. Within Texas, Harris County reported the highest turnout with over 624,000 votes, followed by Dallas County with 358,000 and Travis County with 265,000. An Associated Press analysis shows that early voting in Texas has increased by approximately 74% compared to the 2022 midterms.
In Dallas County, the Democratic and Republican parties implemented staffing and education changes following confusion during the March primary. The Democratic Party launched voter education websites and expanded its voter protection team, while the Republican Party increased its poll watcher team to 50 members to monitor daily reports.
Analysts caution that these figures measure participation rather than candidate support. Because Texas does not register voters by political party, it remains unclear which party is driving the turnout. Early voting in Texas continues through October 30.
