U.S. Treasury Sanctions Iranian Procurement Networks in Economic Fury
The United States Department of the Treasury sanctioned nine individuals and entities in China and Hong Kong to disrupt Iranian military weapons acquisitions.
The United States Department of the Treasury launched an initiative called Economic Fury on June 10, sanctioning nine individuals and entities to disrupt foreign procurement networks supporting the Iranian military. The Office of Foreign Assets Control targeted networks based in China and Hong Kong that facilitate weapons acquisitions for the Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Sanctioned entities include Solos International Limited, Domus Trading HK Limited, Mustad Shanghai International Trade Co Ltd, and Mustad Limited. These measures aim to dismantle the procurement channels used by Iran to acquire weaponry during an ongoing conflict involving President Donald Trump. Treasury officials stated the move is part of a broader strategy to freeze assets and dismantle the Iranian war machine.
By targeting the specific intermediaries in East Asia, the Treasury intends to cut off the flow of critical components and systems. These sanctions place significant pressure on the logistics chain of the Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics, complicating its ability to secure defense acquisitions from Chinese sources and limiting the operational capabilities of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
