DP World Signs 50-Year Deal for Fujairah Port Terminals

DP World signed a 50-year concession with the Fujairah Ports Authority to develop two deepwater terminals to expand UAE container capacity and bypass the Strait of Hormuz.

DP World signed a 50-year concession agreement with the Fujairah Ports Authority to develop two deepwater terminals on the east coast of the United Arab Emirates. The project involves the construction of the Al Rugaylat container and multi-purpose terminal and the Dibba General Cargo terminal. Al Rugaylat is designed to handle 2.5 million TEUs, 1.7 million tonnes of general cargo, and 190,000 Car Equivalent Units annually, while Dibba will add 3.6 million tonnes of general cargo capacity.

The expansion will increase DP World's total UAE container handling capacity from 19.4 million to nearly 22 million TEUs. The terminals will be integrated with Jebel Ali and Jafza via an inland logistics network to improve supply chain resilience. Construction is expected to take 24 to 30 months and will be delivered in phases.

The development creates a direct trade route to bypass the Strait of Hormuz, where shipping has been constrained following an Iranian blockade and the start of the Iran war on February 28. Officials stated the partnership marks a milestone in Fujairah's development as a regional maritime gateway and reflects confidence in the UAE's future as a global logistics hub.
