PDP and APM Launch Grassroots Campaign for Seyi Makinde
Stakeholders from the PDP and APM launched a grassroots mobilization campaign in Ekiti State to support Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde's 2027 presidential bid.
Stakeholders from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) convened in Ado-Ekiti on August 27, 2026, to launch the APM Awareness Campaign. The initiative aims to mobilize party members, youths, and artisans in support of the 2027 presidential bid of Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State.
The campaign promotes a strategic alliance between the PDP and APM that was formalized in May 2026. Organizers described the coalition as a necessary response to legal impediments and internal challenges currently facing the PDP, positioning the APM as a more viable platform for opposition candidates seeking to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Supporters of the alliance cited economic hardship and insecurity under President Bola Tinubu as primary motivations for seeking new leadership. Convener Lanre Fajuyi emphasized the need for a government ready to serve the interests of the masses, while spokesperson Sanya Atofarati framed the joint alliance as a means to preserve the multi-party system amid the PDP's legal difficulties.
