Gabon President Visits Gambia and Ghana to Boost Ties

President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema of Gabon conducted a series of state visits to West Africa on July 30 and 31, 2026, focusing on economic reform and regional integration. In Banjul, The Gambia, President Adama Barrow hosted a state banquet for Oligui Nguema. The Gabonese leader toured several government infrastructure projects, including the National Emergency Treatment Centre in Farato, the University of The Gambia's Faraba Campus, and the National Food & Drug Quality Control Laboratory in Brusubi.

Following the Gambian visit, President Oligui Nguema traveled to Accra, Ghana, for a three-day official visit. President John Dramani Mahama hosted the Gabonese leader for a state dinner at the Jubilee House. The two nations signed multiple agreements to enhance cooperation in agriculture, mining, diplomacy, trade, and industrialization.

During the proceedings, President Mahama praised Gabon's 2025 political transition and its leadership in forest conservation. President Oligui Nguema emphasized the shared gold-rich heritage between the Ashanti region of Ghana and Minkébé in Gabon. The visit concluded with President Mahama accepting an invitation for a reciprocal visit to Gabon to further solidify diplomatic ties.
