China Transport Network Hits Record Volume During National Day
China's transport network handled over 300 million daily passenger trips and record railway traffic during the 2026 National Day holiday.
China's transport network experienced a massive surge in passenger and cargo traffic during the National Day holiday from October 1 to 7, 2026. The Ministry of Transport of the People's Republic of China reported that cross-regional passenger trips exceeded 300 million daily during the first three days of the break.
China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. recorded a single-day record of over 25.2 million passenger trips on October 1. This volume was supported by the September 28 opening of four high-speed railway sections totaling more than 1,100 km. Additionally, a network of 24 million charging facilities supported an increase in new energy vehicle usage throughout the period.
Cargo efficiency also improved following the September 16 opening of the Pinglu Canal, which connects southwest China to international markets. Nanning Port Development and Investment Co., Ltd. managed the resulting increase in traffic, with the port expecting to transport 200,000 tonnes of cargo over the holiday period.
