UBS Announces $3 Billion Stock Buyback Following Profit Surge
UBS Group AG launched a $3 billion share repurchase program after reporting second-quarter net profits of $2.8 billion, exceeding analyst expectations.
UBS Group AG announced a new $3 billion stock-repurchase program on July 29, 2026, with plans to complete the buybacks by the second quarter of 2027. The bank intends to repurchase at least $1 billion in shares within the next three months, adding to another $3 billion in buybacks already completed earlier in the year.
The move follows a strong second-quarter financial performance, where net profit rose to $2.8 billion, surpassing analyst forecasts of $2.39 billion. This growth was primarily driven by the wealth management and investment banking units, while the trading division achieved a record second quarter.
Despite the gains, the bank cautioned that future buybacks depend on financial performance and the resolution of disputes over Swiss banking regulations. UBS has opposed proposals from the Swiss government to require an additional $20 billion in Common Equity Tier 1 capital, arguing that such a mandate would harm its international competitiveness following the 2023 takeover of Credit Suisse.
