Bengaluru Metro Receives Final Yellow Line Trainset

The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) received the 15th and final trainset for the Yellow Line on July 27, 2026. The six-coach train arrived at the Hebbagodi depot to complete the fleet for the 19-km corridor linking RV Road and Bommasandra. While BMRCL inducted its 13th trainset into service on the same day, the 15th unit is scheduled for deployment by August 21 following mandatory testing.

This full fleet aims to lower peak-hour waiting times from seven minutes to four or five minutes. The procurement process experienced significant delays caused by India-China border tensions, visa restrictions for Chinese engineers, and the requirements of the Make in India initiative. To further expand capacity, BMRCL previously awarded a Rs 414-crore contract to BEML for six additional trainsets.

Despite the delivery, the project has faced public criticism. T.V. Mohandas Pai, Chairman of Aarin Capital, criticized BMRCL for being five years behind schedule and failing to provide definitive completion dates.
