Eight Zamfara Lawmakers Quit APC Amid Salary and Security Disputes

Eight Zamfara State House of Assembly members resigned from the APC, citing 32 months of unpaid salaries and the administration's failure to address rural insecurity.

Eight members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) on October 4, 2026, citing worsening insecurity and alleged injustice. Led by Aliyu Ango Kagara, the lawmakers accused the administration of Dauda Lawal of neglecting security in rural communities and withholding salaries, allowances, and entitlements for 32 months.

The resignations occurred as Governor Lawal held an APC stakeholders' meeting at the Government House in Gusau. During the meeting, Lawal responded to complaints regarding neglect and poor welfare by telling dissatisfied political appointees to resign. He denied claims that office holders had received nothing and urged party members to end factional politics and the division of the party into competing camps.

State APC Publicity Secretary Ibrahim Danmadamin Birnin Magaji stated the party had not been officially notified of the resignations, noting that the letters had only been seen on social media. The departing lawmakers, some of whom were previously suspended for an attempted impeachment of the speaker, have not disclosed their next political destination. The internal conflict comes as Lawal prepares to meet with former governors to compile the APC campaign council list for the 2027 elections.
