WhiteFiber to Build Data Centers in Yadkinville Despite County Moratorium
WhiteFiber plans to retrofit warehouses into two data centers in Yadkinville, bypassing a county-wide moratorium that only applies to unincorporated areas.
AI infrastructure company WhiteFiber plans to acquire and retrofit warehouse spaces in Yadkinville to create two data center facilities. The projects are moving forward despite a two-year moratorium on new data center development approved by Yadkin County commissioners last Monday.
Yadkin County Manager Michael Silverman clarified that the pause applies only to unincorporated areas of the county and does not extend to sites within the town limits of Yadkinville. This distinction allows the development to proceed within the town's jurisdiction.
Jon Collins of Enovum Data Centers, a WhiteFiber subsidiary, stated the company's strategy focuses on converting existing warehouses to avoid using greenfield sites and to prevent abandoned facilities from becoming a community burden. The new plants will be modeled after WhiteFiber's Madison facility, which is scheduled to host a town hall meeting for Rockingham County residents on September 19.
