India Gem and Jewellery Exports Rise to $9.17 Billion
India's gem and jewellery exports grew 2.44 percent to $9.17 billion between April and July 2026, driven by surges in silver and studded gold jewellery.
India's gross gem and jewellery exports reached $9.17 billion between April and July 2026, marking a 2.44 percent increase in US dollar terms. According to data from the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council, growth was primarily driven by value-added segments. Silver jewellery exports surged 72.19 percent to $508.18 million, while studded gold jewellery rose 21.09 percent to $2.24 billion.
Demand for these products remained strongest in the United States, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United Kingdom. However, the sector saw a decline in cut and polished diamond exports, which fell 8 percent to $3.60 billion.
Council Chairman Kirit Bhansali attributed the overall resilience of the industry to the growth in value-added segments. He noted that the Taxation and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026, could transform India into a global diamond trading hub by offering a 15-year income tax exemption for foreign companies trading rough diamonds through Special Notified Zones.
