Prabowo Announces Strategic Mineral and Commodity Exchange for 2027

President Prabowo Subianto will launch a Strategic Mineral and Commodity Exchange on January 1, 2027, to establish Indonesian reference prices for key exports.

Prabowo Subianto announced plans to launch a Strategic Mineral and Commodity Exchange on January 1, 2027, during his annual budget address on Friday. The new bourse aims to establish Indonesian reference prices for key exports, including nickel, palm oil, tin, coal, and coffee, to increase the country's influence over global pricing and reduce market manipulation.

The Financial Services Authority will supervise the exchange. This initiative aligns with the president's previous interventionist policies in the natural resources sector. Prabowo stated that Indonesia will no longer be merely a place where commodities are extracted and argued that the nation must set global commodity prices.

Additionally, the president clarified the role of the sovereign wealth fund Danantara. A new entity under Danantara will serve as a single gateway for the processing of palm oil, coal, and ferroalloy exports, though it will not control the commodities themselves.
