Israel Integrates Iron Beam Laser Into Iron Dome Network

The Israel Ministry of Defense successfully integrated the Iron Beam laser system into the Iron Dome network to reduce interceptor costs and counter multi-threat aerial attacks.

The Israel Ministry of Defense and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems completed a series of joint tests integrating the Iron Beam high-power laser weapon system into the Iron Dome command-and-control network. The trials focused on combating complex, multi-threat scenarios involving drones, cruise missiles, and rockets, including cluster munitions dropped from Iranian ballistic missiles.

This integration creates a multi-tiered defense architecture that allows commanders to toggle between missile and laser interceptions. The shift aims to reduce reliance on expensive Tamir interceptor missiles, which cost approximately $50,000 each, in favor of laser pulses that cost only a few dollars. These developments incorporate operational lessons from a June 2025 aerial war with Iran and subsequent retaliatory attacks that damaged Israeli military headquarters and infrastructure.

Although Iron Beam was declared operational in December 2025, officials noted it was not utilized during Operation Roaring Lion due to insufficient battery production. To sustain defensive operations under prolonged fire, Israel is currently accelerating interceptor production both domestically and in the United States.
