Angelina Jolie Uses Satellite Imagery to Highlight Gaza Destruction

Angelina Jolie shared Google Earth images on Instagram to document widespread destruction in Gaza and call for urgent humanitarian aid as winter approaches.

Actor and former UN special envoy Angelina Jolie published before-and-after satellite images of the Gaza Strip on Instagram to document the scale of infrastructure collapse. Using Google Earth imagery, Jolie highlighted the destruction of residential neighborhoods, schools, hospitals, and universities in Gaza City, Khan Younis, and Rafah.

Citing analysis from the UN Satellite Centre, Jolie noted that 82 percent of structures in Gaza were damaged as of June 16, 2026, with over 134,000 structures classified as destroyed. She linked this devastation to the military offensive that followed Hamas-led attacks on October 7, 2023, noting that the conflict has displaced two million Palestinians and killed over 74,000 people. Jolie specifically emphasized that Gaza has become the world's leading location for child amputees, with bombs causing 99 percent of those injuries.

Jolie warned of a worsening crisis as winter approaches, stating that 1.98 million people—approximately 94 percent of the population—require shelter assistance and basic necessities. She called for the removal of restrictions on humanitarian aid and the delivery of medical supplies to hospitals, urging the international community to create conditions that allow Palestinians to rebuild their communities.
