JD(U) Expels Anant Singh and Wife Over Party Defiance

The Janata Dal (United) expelled MLA Anant Singh and his wife Neelam Devi for six years after Singh supported a rival party candidate.

The Janata Dal (United) expelled Mokama MLA Anant Singh and his wife, Neelam Devi, from the party for six years on October 25, 2026. The ruling party took this action after Singh defied leadership directives by supporting Anuj Singh, a Jan Suraaj Party candidate, during the biennial polls for the State Legislative Council's Patna graduates constituency.

Singh actively campaigned against the official JD(U) nominee, MLC Neeraj Kumar, whom Singh accused of framing him in multiple legal cases. The party cited Singh's use of "unsavoury words" against top leaders and his efforts to ensure the defeat of the official nominee as the primary grounds for the expulsion.

Following the expulsion, state JD(U) president Umesh Singh Kushwaha announced that the party would recommend the Speaker of the state assembly disqualify Anant Singh from the house.
