During the event, Hegseth praised Graham's service in both the military and Congress. He used the platform to criticize "radical leftist ideology" and "woke ideology," claiming these forces have harmed military recruiting. Hegseth further advocated for a $1.5 trillion defense budget and asserted that the Trump administration is uniquely committed to preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

Senator Darline Graham, who was appointed to fill her brother's term, also spoke at the ceremony. She highlighted the late senator's dual commitment to the Air Force and the United States Senate.
