PhRMA Names Former House Leader Eric Cantor as CEO
Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America appointed former U.S. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor as its next president and chief executive officer.
The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) has appointed Eric Cantor as its next president and chief executive officer. The former U.S. House Majority Leader, who represented Virginia from 2000 to 2014, will officially take over the role on November 9.
Cantor succeeds Stephen J. Ubl, who has led the pharmaceutical lobby group since 2015. Ubl will remain with the organization as a strategic adviser until mid-January 2027 to ensure a smooth transition. PhRMA's board cited Cantor's legislative history as a primary driver for the selection, specifically noting his support for the 21st Century Cures Act, the Gabriella Miller Kids First Research Act, and Medicare Part D.
Since his departure from Congress, Cantor has worked as Vice Chairman and Managing Director at Moelis & Company. He intends to maintain his position at the firm while leading the industry group. Rob Davis, CEO of Merck and chair of the PhRMA Board, stated that Cantor's combination of global business experience and high-level government policy expertise makes him the ideal leader for the organization's next chapter.
