Stanley Druckenmiller Admits Using AI for Wall Street Journal Op-Ed

Investor Stanley Druckenmiller admitted to using AI to write an op-ed criticizing Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's bond buyback policy.

Hedge-fund investor Stanley Druckenmiller admitted to using artificial intelligence to compose an opinion piece in The Wall Street Journal titled "Let the Bond Market Speak." The admission followed reports from the AI-detection tool Pangram and allegations from social media users and the news startup Notus that the text was AI-generated.

In the article, Druckenmiller criticized Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's decision to at least double government buybacks of long-term bonds, increasing the maximum size to $4 billion per operation. Druckenmiller characterized the move as a mistake and an attempt at "price management" rather than liquidity management. He argued that the government should instead reform entitlements and address the primary deficit to lower yields durably.

Druckenmiller defended his use of the technology, comparing AI to a calculator used for math problems and asserting that the ideas and message remained his own. The Wall Street Journal defended its decision to publish the piece, stating that the publication prioritizes whether a contributor's argument is original and if the author possesses the necessary credibility.
