OpenAI Inc. Removes ChatGPT Text Limits and Updates Models
OpenAI Inc. is removing text chat rate limits for free and Go users while upgrading AI models across all ChatGPT subscription tiers.
OpenAI Inc. is removing text chat rate limits for ChatGPT users on the free and Go tiers starting next week. While messages containing file uploads and images will remain limited, text-only conversations will become unlimited. As part of this rollout, the company is upgrading the default AI model for these tiers to GPT-5.6 Luna and introducing a Think button to provide higher reasoning for complex questions.
For Plus and Pro subscribers, the company is updating the GPT-5.6 Sol model to improve factual reliability, specifically regarding dates, numbers, and sources. These paid users will also receive a new slider to control the amount of processing the AI applies to an answer. These updates for paid tiers become available this Thursday.
The strategy aims to attract a larger user base and maintain the company's position against competitors such as Google and Anthropic.
