USDA Reports Slight Increase in Corn Prevented Plantings
The United States Department of Agriculture reported a slight increase in corn prevented plantings to 1.381 million acres as of October 1.
The United States Department of Agriculture reported that farmers enrolled in crop subsidy programs recorded 1.381 million acres of corn as prevented plantings as of October 1. This figure represents a slight increase from the 1.38 million acres reported in September.
Other major crops remained stable during the same period. Soybean prevented plantings held at 0.540 million acres, and wheat remained unchanged at 0.366 million acres. Rice prevented plantings saw a minor increase to 266,000 acres, while barley, sorghum, and upland cotton figures did not change.
Total planted acreage, which includes failed acres, reached 95.343 million acres for corn, 85.973 million acres for soybeans, and 46.168 million acres for wheat. The agency noted that year-over-year comparisons are unavailable because a government shutdown in 2025 prevented the release of Farm Services Agency acreage reports in October and November of that year.
