PayPal Cuts Thousands of Jobs Across India, Ireland and Israel

PayPal Holdings, Inc. is implementing a global restructuring plan to reduce its total workforce by approximately 20%, representing roughly 4,760 positions. The company aims to accelerate AI adoption, lower operational costs, and simplify global operations to remain competitive against other fintech and technology firms.

In India, the company is laying off nearly a quarter of its 6,700 employees, primarily affecting its largest non-U.S. operations in Chennai and Bengaluru. In Ireland, PayPal Europe Services Ltd notified the Department of Enterprise on August 28 that it plans to make 164 employees redundant, which accounts for nearly 12% of its local workforce. These Irish cuts affect all levels of the company, including 33 roles in business support, with redundancies scheduled between October 7 and October 21.

PayPal is also eliminating dozens of positions in Israel, where it employs roughly 300 people. These moves follow a series of restructuring initiatives, including the 2Q 2025 Plan to reengineer technology infrastructure through 2027. The layoffs come after previous redundancies in 2023 and 2024, as well as the collapse of a takeover bid by a consortium consisting of Stripe and Advent.
