Indian-American candidates are running for various state and federal offices in the November 3 midterm elections while the Americans4Hindus PAC seeks to expand community influence.
Indian-American candidates are contesting a range of federal, state, and local offices in the November 3 US midterm elections. While current House members Ro Khanna, Pramila Jayapal, Ami Bera, and Suhas Subramanyam are seeking re-election, the total number of Indian-origin members in the House is expected to decrease from six to four after primary losses by Raja Krishnamoorthi and Shri Thanedar.
High-profile races include Republican Vivek Ramaswamy for Ohio Governor and Sarita Komatireddy for New York Attorney General, both of whom received endorsements from Donald Trump. At the local and state levels, Nithya Raman is running for Los Angeles Mayor, and Aruna Miller is seeking re-election as Lieutenant Governor of Maryland.
To expand the political influence of the community, the Americans4Hindus Political Action Committee is endorsing both Democratic and Republican candidates who support the Hindu community and the Indian diaspora. Founder Romesh Japra stated that the community must have a seat at the decision-making table to avoid being marginalized.
