Zhipu AI to Release GLM-5.3 Model to Rival US AI

Zhipu AI announced the upcoming release of GLM-5.3, an upgraded flagship large language model designed to enhance coding capabilities and challenge US-based industry leaders OpenAI and Anthropic PBC. The Beijing-based company plans to release the model's weights under a permissive license within two weeks to attract a broader base of developers and users.

GLM-5.3 utilizes the same 700-billion-parameter base model as the GLM-5.2 version released in June. The company is timing this launch as its domestic competitor, DeepSeek, recently raised prices for its V4 Flash and Pro models.

To support its growth, Zhipu AI recently expanded its infrastructure with a new data center equipped with at least 10,000 Chinese-made chips. As of July, the company reported annual recurring revenue of $1 billion.
