Reliance Industries Welcomes Starlink Competition in India

Reliance Industries Ltd welcomed Starlink's entry into India's satellite communications market, stating that all operators must abide by national laws and regulatory policies.

Reliance Industries Ltd issued a statement on Friday welcoming competition in the Indian satellite communications sector, specifically referencing Elon Musk's Starlink. The announcement follows public criticisms from Musk regarding the competitive landscape of the Indian market.

Reliance asserted that it does not fear competition, viewing it as a test of which provider serves the customer best. The company highlighted the growth of its Jio service, which has reached over 530 million customers since 2016. While the conglomerate expressed support for international investment and innovation, it emphasized that every operator must abide by the laws and policies of India.

Reliance noted that the Government of India applies a uniform regulatory process to all applicants regardless of their nationality. The company added that Jio's own satellite services are currently awaiting the same regulatory clearances required for foreign entities like Starlink.
