NATO Military Committee Convenes in Kyiv for First Time in Eight Years

The NATO Military Committee met with Ukrainian military leadership in Kyiv to discuss battlefield priorities and combat lessons amid conflicting signals on Ukraine's alliance membership.

The NATO Military Committee, the alliance's highest military authority, convened in Kyiv for the first time in eight years to meet with the leadership of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Led by Chairman Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, military representatives from all 32 member states held talks with Commander-in-Chief Mykhailo Drapatyi regarding the current battlefield situation and Ukraine's military priorities.

The delegation focused on integrating combat lessons from the conflict to strengthen NATO's preparedness for future threats. During the visit, Admiral Dragone stated that the bond between NATO and Ukraine is "stronger and stronger."

The meeting takes place amid diplomatic tension over Ukraine's future status. While NATO maintains that Ukraine is on an "irreversible path" toward entry, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently noted that membership "is not on the table as we speak," citing the need for unanimous member backing. Meanwhile, Russia continues to demand Ukrainian neutrality as a prerequisite for any settlement, framing NATO's eastward expansion as a national security threat.
