APC and ADC Supporters Clash During Ekiti State Election

African Democratic Congress and All Progressives Congress supporters clashed in Ilawe-Ekiti after allegations that APC agents attempted to bribe voters with cash.

Supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) engaged in physical violence on June 20, 2026, at Unit 4, Ward 2 in Ilawe-Ekiti during the Ekiti State governorship election. The clash began when ADC supporters accused APC agents of attempting to induce voters with money.

Dare Bejide, the ADC governorship candidate, alleged that an APC chieftain arrived at the polling unit in a Toyota Jeep carrying a sack of cash intended for distribution. Bejide further claimed that security personnel hired by the APC attacked one of his aides. The confrontation left one ADC supporter hospitalized with a head injury.

Security operatives eventually intervened to disperse the crowd and restore order, which allowed voting to resume. Despite the violence, Bejide praised the Independent National Electoral Commission for the diligence of its officials prior to the unrest.
