Kyrgyzstan Signs Allied Relations Treaties With Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan

President Sadyr Japarov of Kyrgyzstan signed a Treaty on Allied Relations with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on July 31, 2026, in Cholpon-Ata. Both leaders described the agreement as a historic decision that establishes a new legal foundation for joint development and elevates bilateral cooperation to the highest interstate level.

Simultaneously, during the third meeting of the Interstate Council of Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan, President Japarov and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced the elevation of their own relations to an alliance. The leaders characterized the partnership as one based on friendship and mutual respect, noting that no unresolved issues exist to hinder their cooperation. This new alliance aims to expand collaboration across security, education, transport, energy, and investments.

As part of this diplomatic surge, President Aliyev announced a decision to increase the resources of the Kyrgyzstan-Azerbaijan Development Fund. He stated that the fund is operating successfully with several projects already under implementation and expressed confidence that increased funding would expand the number of joint projects to serve the common goals of both nations. The leaders also noted the success of recent humanitarian ties, specifically citing the Days of Culture events held in both countries.
