Cockroach Janta Party Leaders Appear Before Magistrate After Release
Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das appeared before a magistrate Friday following their release from custody for protesting at Jantar Mantar.
Leaders of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das, appeared before the Special Executive Magistrate at the Mandir Marg police station on Friday, October 23. The appearance follows their release from judicial custody on October 21, where they had been detained for trespassing and obstructing public servants during an October 13 protest at Jantar Mantar.
To secure their release, Ranka and Das furnished personal and surety bonds of Rs 50,000 each. They also signed undertakings promising not to breach the peace or organize further protests at Jantar Mantar while the location remains a denotified site. During the proceedings, the court ordered Das to provide verifiable documentation of his Delhi residential address by November 17.
Legal pressure continues as the Delhi Police Crime Branch is issuing new notices to Das, Ranka, and CJP member Ajinkya Shinde after they failed to respond to summons for an investigation on Thursday. Despite the legal challenges, Ranka asserted that the movement would continue regardless of whether leaders are jailed, while Das stated that future actions would be decided collectively.
