Shreveport Approves Tax Breaks for Multi-Billion Dollar Data Center

The Shreveport City Council unanimously approved Resolution 144, granting 25-year tax exemptions to developers proposing a large-scale data center in west Shreveport. To qualify for these incentives from the Northwest Louisiana Finance Authority, companies must invest between $2 billion and $8 billion and create 50 to 150 high-paying jobs.

Mayor Tom Arceneaux described the project at the Resilient Technology Center as a "home run" and the largest capital investment in the history of Northwest Louisiana, exceeding previous investments by General Motors. To mitigate resident concerns over utility costs, Arceneaux stated the project will fund its own electrical, water, and sewer infrastructure to avoid increasing taxpayer rates.

While the council approved the tax breaks, community members remain divided over the need for independent data to protect nearby neighborhoods. The council is scheduled to vote on a special use permit for the facility on December 18, following a community meeting on December 16. Separately, the city approved its 2026 operating budget, which includes a $15 hourly minimum pay and raises for lower-earning employees.
