Uplifters Foundation to Build 60 Homes in Pacific Palisades
The Uplifters Foundation will issue $250 million in municipal bonds to build 60 homes in the Pacific Palisades disaster area by 2028.
The Uplifters Foundation plans to construct 60 new homes in the Pacific Palisades disaster area, utilizing up to $250 million in municipal bonds issued through the California Public Finance Authority. The project follows January 2025 wildfires that killed 31 people and destroyed more than 5,000 homes across the region.
Each home will be priced at approximately $3 million and available for purchase following an initial lease period. While the foundation describes the housing as attainable relative to pre-fire median prices, the initiative requires no financial commitment from taxpayers or the city. The first residences are expected to be move-in ready by 2028.
The Los Angeles City Council approved a resolution supporting the debt issuance, viewing the project as a way to restore property tax revenue and encourage other residents to rebuild. Council member Traci Park sponsored the motions, stating that the city needs to look at creative solutions to a problem that conventional approaches are not solving. Co-founder Steven Dietz noted that if the project works, it could become a model for other communities to pursue.
