Reform UK Scotland Campaign Hits Candidate Crisis
Reform UK has lost eight candidates and its press officer amid allegations of racist comments and financial misconduct during its Scottish Parliament campaign.
The Reform UK campaign for the Scottish Parliament is facing a series of candidate withdrawals and staff resignations following the announcement of 73 constituency candidates on March 19. Eight candidates and press officer Amanda Crawford have left the party; Crawford reportedly resigned due to concerns regarding her ability to perform her role.
Departures include Donald McNiven and Mark Wallis, as well as Linda Holt and James Glen, who resigned after reports surfaced regarding racist comments about former First Minister Humza Yousaf. Other candidates withdrew for family reasons or were suspended over alleged financial misconduct.
Malcolm Offord, leader of Reform UK in Scotland, defended the party, stating that intense media scrutiny has led some individuals to realize that standing as an MSP is not for everyone. Opponents from Scottish Labour and the Liberal Democrats have characterized the situation as a meltdown.
