Apple Plans Foldable iPhone and 2027 Glass Overhaul

Apple Inc. is preparing a significant expansion of its hardware lineup, beginning with an expected September event featuring eight new products. According to reports, the primary attraction will be a foldable device known as the iPhone Ultra, alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, Apple Watch Series 12, and Apple Watch Ultra 4. The company is also expected to debut a new Apple TV set-top box, a HomePod mini, and a preview of a smart home hub featuring Siri AI and face detection.

Looking further ahead, the company is proceeding with a glass-centric overhaul of the iPhone for its 20th anniversary in 2027. These Pro models, internally called V73 and V74, will feature front and back glass that curves into the sides, separated by a metal band. This plan persists despite claims from Jefferies analyst Edison Lee that the all-glass design was canceled, a report that led Lee to downgrade Apple shares. While a more ambitious version that replaced metal entirely was scrapped due to connectivity and manufacturing issues, the broader product road map remains intact.

These developments coincide with a leadership transition, as John Ternus is scheduled to become Chief Executive Officer on September 1. Other upcoming releases include a second-generation ultrathin iPhone Air, while a revamped iPad mini and M6 MacBook Pro are anticipated for October.
