Star Entertainment Reports A$307.3 Million Annual Net Loss
Star Entertainment reported a statutory net loss of A$307.3 million, exceeding analyst estimates amid ongoing regulatory penalties and weak gaming revenue.
Star Entertainment reported a statutory net loss after tax of A$307.3 million for the fiscal year ending June 30. While this figure represents an improvement over the previous year's A$427.9 million loss, it surpassed analyst expectations of a A$180 million loss.
The Australian casino operator warned that difficult trading conditions will continue, citing weak table gaming revenue in New South Wales and an expected regulatory penalty. The company has been under scrutiny since 2021 for alleged breaches of anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing laws, which led to civil proceedings by the Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre.
To maintain liquidity, the company secured a $390 million loan from WhiteHawk in May and a A$300 million investment in 2025 led by Bally's and the Mathieson family. In a related legal development, a court fined former CEO Matthias Bekier A$700,000 and banned him from managing companies for six years for failing to manage money-laundering risks.
