Former House Speaker Lisa Demuth Runs for Minnesota Governor
Lisa Demuth announced her candidacy for governor of Minnesota, pledging to cut taxes and reform state government spending.
Lisa Demuth, the former speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives, has launched a campaign for governor of Minnesota. Demuth argues that the state requires a change in leadership after eight years under Governor Tim Walz, specifically citing declining test scores and the waste of an 18 billion dollar budget surplus.
Her platform focuses on fiscal reform, including property tax relief, cutting taxes for working families, and capping license tab fees at 99 dollars or less. Demuth claims that an estimated 9 billion dollars was lost to fraud in social services programs and vows to transform the administrative culture in St. Paul to ensure better stewardship of taxpayer funds.
Demuth also positioned herself against the influence of progressives within the DFL Party and contrasted her leadership style with that of Senator Amy Klobuchar. While Demuth emphasizes a professional work environment, Klobuchar has defended the current administration, stating that Tim Walz has been an incredible governor who delivers for the people of Minnesota.
