Oracle Unveils AI Lakehouse Updates to Challenge Data Competitors
Oracle introduced a Business Simulation Engine and Semantic Layer for its Autonomous AI Lakehouse to improve AI agent reliability and financial modeling.
During the Oracle AI World conference in Las Vegas, Oracle announced three major updates to its Autonomous AI Lakehouse designed to consolidate analytics and planning into a single managed environment. The company introduced the Business Semantic Layer and the Business Simulation Engine, both of which are expected to launch within 12 months.
The Business Semantic Layer aims to increase the reliability of AI agents by grounding them in standardized, company-specific data definitions. The Business Simulation Engine integrates Oracle Essbase to provide write-back capabilities and scenario sandboxing, allowing users to perform complex financial what-if modeling directly within the lakehouse.
Additionally, Oracle expanded SQL support for Apache Iceberg tables. This update enables data engineers to manage open table formats using standard SQL, which reduces data duplication across multi-platform environments. These strategic moves are intended to challenge modular AI architectures and enterprise performance management platforms offered by competitors including Microsoft, Snowflake, and Databricks.
