JCPenney Launches Retail Rejuvenation Campaign Targeting Off-Price Competitors

JCPenney launched a satirical marketing campaign and trade-in event targeting the low quality of goods sold by competing off-price retailers.

JCPenney launched a Retail Rejuvenation marketing campaign that satirizes the low quality of goods sold at competing off-price retailers. The initiative centers on a commercial depicting a retreat where shoppers seek recovery from retail regrets caused by cheaply made products.

To support the campaign, the retailer will host a trade-in event from August 28 to August 30. Customers can bring in a regretted purchase from another retailer to receive a $15 discount on a $50 purchase. JCPenney will donate all items collected during the promotion to the non-profit organization Good360.

Marisa Thalberg, the Chief Customer and Marketing Officer of parent company Catalyst Brands, described the campaign as a playful push against the idea that great deals from other retailers always satisfy the consumer.
