India Signs ₹1,577 Crore Contracts for Kamikaze Drones

The Ministry of Defence of India signed two contracts totaling ₹1,577 crore with Tata Advanced Systems Ltd and Nibe Pvt Ltd to procure loitering munitions, commonly known as kamikaze drones, and associated equipment. These systems are designed to improve the precision-strike capabilities and operational effectiveness of the Indian Army's artillery regiments.

The acquisition was conducted through a fast-track procedure under the Buy Indian scheme. This initiative supports India's broader objective of achieving self-reliance in defence and its goal to establish itself as a global drone manufacturing hub by 2030.

This procurement aligns with the Defence Forces Vision 2047 and the Technology Roadmap for Unmanned Aerial Systems and Loitering Munitions. The strategy involves inducting tens of thousands of locally produced unmanned aerial systems over the next five years to modernize battlefield capabilities.
