Intel and Fortinet Partner to Develop SP6 Security Chip

Intel Corporation and Fortinet entered a strategic collaboration on July 21, 2026, to produce Fortinet's next-generation Security Processor 6 (SP6). The chip will be manufactured using the Intel 4 process, specifically designed for networking application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs).

The partnership combines Fortinet's proprietary processor design with Intel's semiconductor design, packaging, and manufacturing capabilities. This effort aims to create a highly integrated processor capable of handling AI-related workloads, larger volumes of encrypted traffic, and complex threat detection. Beyond technical specifications, the agreement is intended to diversify and strengthen Fortinet's global supply chain and advance its long-term ASIC roadmap.

For Intel, the deal represents a success for CEO Lip-Bu Tan in attracting external foundry customers to justify capital expenditures for factories in the United States and overseas. While the companies did not disclose financial terms or a specific release timetable, they intend to explore further cooperation in semiconductor technology and cybersecurity infrastructure to drive future innovation.
