Justice Department Terminates Security Clearance of Trump Ally
Kurt Olsen stepped aside from a Justice Department investigation after the agency terminated his security clearance following a failed polygraph test.
The United States Department of Justice terminated the security clearance of Kurt Olsen, a senior counsel in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Miami and ally of Donald Trump, last month. The agency stated the decision followed Olsen's failure of a polygraph test.
Olsen's loss of clearance hindered his work on a criminal investigation into whether officials under Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden violated Trump's constitutional rights during probes into his 2016 campaign and the seizure of documents from Mar-a-Lago. The investigation has targeted former CIA Director John Brennan, though no charges have been filed. Olsen stepped aside from the probe last week.
Olsen disputes the claim that his clearance was revoked, asserting he maintains an active clearance from an unnamed agency. However, the Justice Department confirmed that Olsen currently lacks an active clearance with the department. The development follows the September 10 resignation of Justice Department official Joseph diGenova, who left after clashing with leadership over investigative strategy.
