Brookfield Reports $1.4 Billion Earnings and $100 Billion AI Deal
Brookfield reported a 15% increase in second-quarter earnings and announced a $100 billion partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy for an AI campus.
Brookfield reported a 15% year-over-year increase in second-quarter distributable earnings before realizations, totaling $1.4 billion. The asset management firm is pivoting its strategy toward artificial intelligence and nuclear energy, anchored by a $100 billion partnership with the United States Department of Energy to develop an AI campus on federal land in Kentucky.
As part of its energy expansion, the company secured a $17.5 billion commitment from the United States Department of Energy to support the reactor pipeline of Westinghouse Electric Corporation, which currently has 14 reactors under construction. Financial growth was further bolstered by record fundraising of $77 billion and the acquisitions of Oaktree Capital Management and Just Group plc, the latter of which added $45 billion in insurance assets.
CEO Bruce Flatt identified interest rate uncertainty, high energy prices, and geopolitical conflict as the primary risks facing the company. In terms of shareholder returns, the board declared a quarterly dividend of $0.07 per share, and the company has spent approximately $580 million on share buybacks so far this year.
