David Crowley Faces Scrutiny Over Incendiary Social Media Posts
Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley is facing backlash after an old X account containing offensive posts surfaced during his gubernatorial primary campaign.
Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley is facing scrutiny over an X account active between 2010 and 2014 under the pseudonym "Dirt McGirk." The account contains incendiary posts targeting women, race, and the LGBTQ community. The controversy arrives shortly after Crowley re-entered the Wisconsin gubernatorial Democratic primary, having previously dropped out on July 9.
Crowley's campaign acknowledged that he authored some of the messages on the feed but denied responsibility for the offensive content. The campaign attributed the controversial posts to a deceased friend. Separately, Milwaukee radio personality Ray Nitti claimed he also operated the account.
The Democratic Party of Wisconsin had encouraged Crowley to return to the race to provide a viable alternative to Francesca Hong, who currently leads in the primary polls.
