China Orders State Entities to Remove Microsoft Windows 10
The Chinese Ministry of State Security ordered state-linked entities to accelerate the removal of a customized Microsoft Windows 10 version to reduce foreign technology dependence.
The Ministry of State Security of the People's Republic of China has ordered state-linked entities to accelerate the removal of a customized version of Microsoft Windows 10 from their computers. This directive moves the retirement schedule forward by several months from the original February 2027 deadline.
The software was developed by C&M Information Technologies Co., a joint venture between Microsoft and the state-owned China Electronics Technology Group Corp. The customized operating system was specifically designed to meet the security requirements of the Chinese government.
This action is part of a broader national campaign to enhance data security and reduce reliance on foreign technology. Similar measures have already resulted in bans on foreign-branded PCs and Apple iPhones within sensitive government agencies. Microsoft stated it is not aware of any security incidents affecting the product. The order comes shortly before a scheduled meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
